Domesticated dogs are largely carnivores that eat some omnivorous foods. Wild dogs eat a variety of food which consists mainly of prey animals. Prey animals are composed of raw meat, raw bones, organs, other tissue and digested vegetable matter. While dogs are carnivores they do consume a small amount of the vegetable matter contained in the stomach and intestines of their prey. Dogs have evolved over thousands of years to eat this type of diet.

Can I Cook it?
Our Somerford Raw family knows that raw feeding delivers the greatest nutritional benefit, but we also understand that some pets need a gentle transition — and that’s perfectly okay within our community.
Our meals can be lightly cooked if needed. Simply warm the food over medium heat for a few minutes, just until the colour and texture begin to change. As your pet grows more confident with their new diet, you can gradually reduce the cooking time until they’re enjoying their meals completely raw.
Because heating can remove up to 60% of nutrients, feeding raw gives your pet the richest, most biologically appropriate nutrition — the kind our community is proud to stand behind.
How is the food delivered?
Every order is packed frozen and delivered using the same cold-chain logistics trusted throughout the food industry. Your meals are packed in insulated packaging with ice packs to help maintain temperature during transit.
We dispatch frozen orders from our warehouse on Tuesdays and Thursdays (WA and SA on Tuesdays only). These are dispatch days, not delivery days: our refrigerated courier delivers seven days a week, based on the next available delivery slot for your area. See delivery details

You can safely defrost, portion, and refreeze our meals when handled with the same care you’d use for human‑grade meat. Always defrost in the fridge, keep the food cold while portioning, and refreeze promptly to maintain freshness and safety.
